We Lift Our Eyes To See The Lord: Psalm 123

Psalms 123:1-4  A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

Readers of the KJV will note that these Psalms are called Songs of Degrees.  The Hebrew word describes making steps onward and upward.  A bit like Jacob’s Ladder (Stairway).  Each “step” shows spiritual growth.  Note that the procession has learned to look to God (as opposed to looking at the threat of what is near (in their faces).  In fact the attitude is one of humility and willing service.  Their hearts are hurt!  No end of ridicule and contempt has damaged them.  However, they look as slaves to a Master Who will only do them good.  In fact they need only see God’s Hand move and they obey.  Which means they understand their Lord’s Will and Ways and are moving on from past “baggage”.
