Proverbs 13:10 Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
Pride causes conflict. What is it? Being proud of one’s achievements? Pleased with oneself about doing well? Is it feeling pleasure when we succeed in something? Surely such things do not cause conflict. Yet God’s Word emphasises the “wrongness” of pride. Pride comes before a fall! Perhaps we are speaking of an attitude of heart that has no substance in reality? Self-righteousness, self-satisfaction, self-assertion, and attitudes like it tend to create arguments and strife. God warns against the kind of attitude that will not be told, will not listen to others, will not see when they are wrong. The proverb sums it up in advising wisdom that can take advice (criticism, challenge) without feeling threatened or “hurt”. Rather, we should have an attitude of humility and respect for others.
