Proverbs 24:10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!
This proverb is a bit like the English one about falling at the first hurdle. There are Bible verses that show that God understands that we have “little strength”, that we are dust. We also read that if we recognise our weakness then we can rely on God to give us strength.
Most of us will admit to times when we have faltered in our faith, we have tripped over when an obstacle has been in the way. It seems that God expects, while in the world, that we have faith in Him and trust Him. The Bible is full of amazing promises that are intended to give us strength in times of trouble. All the promises of God are centred in our Lord Jesus Christ. One day, He was walking home with a very worried parent whose daughter was dying:
Mark 5:35-36 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” (36) Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
