Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!
Do I agree? After all money does seem to make the world go round! But Paul wrote to Timothy warning him that the love of money is a root into all kinds of evil. Jesus called money, “Mammon” and warned about being its servant.
Money is a system that makes the transfer of goods simple. Money used to have a real face value (a gold, silver or copper coin). Now money is just a representative, a token, a voucher. But, for now, it works! And, we tend to look on wealthy people as wise people!
You might think, “It is one thing for Solomon, in all his wealth and wisdom, to look down on money, but …” Maybe, he had realised a thing or two about the deception of wealth and was passing on good advice? Do I value wisdom above wealth!
Jesus said,
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21
