Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (6) in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
I know several people who had this verse given to them when they were baptised. They are wise words, simple to understand. Perhaps like a parent telling a child to hold their hand while they cross a busy road together. It requires the trust of a child, the acceptance that the parent is able to protect them and keep them from danger. There we have the problem for most of us. We have become a generation that thinks the song “I Did It My Way” is suitable at a funeral!
Mark 10:15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Wisdom and understanding in life come from trusting God and living by His Truth. Who can claim, truthfully, that they have managed their life well without trusting in God?
Human nature seems to be dependent on feeling great about ourselves. This can lead to an exaggerated opinion of one’s own way. We can feel insecure if things don’t fit what we think and do. We can even end up giving the impression that people must follow “My way – or the highway!” Our verses from the Book of Proverbs advise us to avoid our way and, instead, walk along God’s High Way!
