The Apple of your Eye: Proverbs 7:2,3

Proverbs 7:2-3  Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye.  (3)  Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.

These words link with New Testament teaching.

Colossians 3:16  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

We are a Holy Spirit filled people but still have to put things into practice.  We have to exercise our wills to do the things that please God and make us wise. For us the Law, the commands are all IN Jesus.  He is our law and His command is to love Him and one another.  The “apple of the eye” is interesting.

Zechariah 2:8 has – for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

The term is used as far back as when Israel was in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 32:10).  Its meaning is of cherishing someone.  I suppose the thought is that we guard our eyes.  Getting poked in the eye is very unpleasant!  Not easily ignored. Great to know that God has such care of us.  He is gracious and will help us be on guard about living His Way.
